Emirates restores full Japanese network with resumption of Tokyo-Haneda flights

On April 2, Emirates resumed its flights to Tokyo-Haneda, restoring its full Japanese network and further expanding its presence in Southeast Asia. Satish Sethi, Emirates’ country manager in Japan, expressed excitement for the continued development of the airline’s Japanese network, and thanked local authorities and partners for their support in providing seamless global connectivity for Japanese travelers. The flight EK312 from Dubai to Haneda was operated by one of the airline’s latest Boeing 777 “Game Changer” aircraft, with valuable connectivity for travelers to access Emirates’ points beyond Dubai. In addition to Tokyo-Haneda, Emirates also operates daily services to Tokyo-Narita and Osaka, offering passengers access to 24 additional domestic cities in Japan through its codeshare partnership with Japan Airlines. Japanese travelers can benefit from access to over 130 destinations across six continents via Dubai, including popular destinations such as Italy, Spain, the US, France, and the UK. 

Emirates and United also recently activated their codeshare partnership, providing Emirates customers with easier access to an expanded choice of US destinations. Meanwhile, Emirates announced it will deploy its signature A380 aircraft to Bali starting from June 1, marking the first scheduled A380 service to the country.

ADCEB and ADNEC Group Launch Joint Fund to Boost Corporate Events in Abu Dhabi

ADCEB and ADNEC Group have teamed up to establish a joint fund that offers additional financial incentives and support to corporate events in Abu Dhabi. This initiative is part of ADCEB’s strategy to strengthen public-private partnerships and position Abu Dhabi as a global hub for business tourism. The partnership combines ADCEB’s expertise with ADNEC Group’s portfolio of event, tourism, and hospitality assets to create the ultimate destination package for large-scale events. The joint marketing efforts of the two entities will also raise awareness of Abu Dhabi’s readiness to host conferences, exhibitions, and events. 

The newly formed fund fills a gap in Advantage Abu Dhabi’s support for groups of over 500 delegates and will be available for events scheduled between May 1, 2023, and December 31, 2024. Meanwhile, ADNEC Group is preparing to host major international exhibitions, events, and conferences that will bring visitors, exhibitors, and speakers from all over the world to Abu Dhabi. As part of its efforts to reduce carbon emissions, ADNEC Group pledged to support the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative.

Investopia Launches ‘Smart Clinics’ in the Middle East with Italian Partners GKSD Investment Holding Group and Gruppo San Donato

Investopia and Italian companies GKSD Investment Holding Group and Gruppo San Donato have announced the launch of “Smart Clinics” in the UAE and the wider Middle East region. The initiative aims to improve quality of life through precision healthcare and technology. Investopia’s platform is focused on investing in new economic sectors, including healthcare technology, and aims to create a global system for investment in such sectors. 

The MoU was signed during the Investopia 2023 Conference, where the Italian companies also announced over EUR125m in new projects in the UAE and the region. Additionally, Investopia has signed a partnership with Emirates Development Bank to drive economic growth, diversification, and industrial transformation in new economies. Investopia Europe will hold an event in Milan on May 19, which will explore investment opportunities in the sectors of the new economy.

AD Ports Group Completes Merger to Form $1.9bn Integrated Staff Accommodation Firm in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi’s AD Ports Group has successfully merged KEZAD Communities and Al Eskan Al Jamae (EAJ) to create one of the largest integrated staff accommodation companies in the UAE with a managed capacity of approximately 135,000 beds. The merged entity retains a 52% controlling stake under AD Ports, offering customers integrated staff accommodation solutions, including amenities, facilities, and associated services. KEZAD Communities, a part of the Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi, provides the newly merged company with more assets to expand its support services, enhance quality and sustainability, and provide opportunities for regional expansion. For the full Q1 2023, the merger will be fully consolidated in the group’s financials. 

AD Ports’ maritime and port facilities’ solid performance, coupled with new acquisitions and partnerships, led to a 41% increase in its full-year revenues to $1.5bn in 2022. The logistics firm raised $1.1bn through an initial public offering on the Abu Dhabi bourse in 2022.

Sultan Al Qasimi inaugurates “The Arabic Manuscript Collection of El Escorial” Exhibition

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed AlQasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, marked the inauguration of “The Arabic Manuscript Collection of El Escorial” Exhibition today (Sunday), at the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA). The event, held in collaboration with El Escorial library, will take place from April 2 to April 9.

The exhibition on display in Sharjah is the first to feature the largest collection of rare Arab artefacts from the El Escorial Library, which has never been displayed outside of Spain before. The manuscripts have been granted the authorisation by the Royal Palace of Madrid to be publicly displayed in the Emirate for the first time.

HH Ruler of Sharjah toured the exhibition, which includes 14 rare manuscripts from the 13th to 16th centuries, where His Highness was briefed on the history, contents, and authors of these rare Arabic manuscripts preserved in Spain.

The exhibition is a testament to the Sharjah Book Authority’s commitment to the Arab cultural movement and fostering intercultural dialogue with European and global cultural hubs. The Authority’s collaborative efforts with cultural and educational institutions, including historical libraries dedicated to preserving ancient manuscripts, are aimed at facilitating public access to them.

The Exhibition’s Collection

The most precious manuscripts on display include “Kitab al-masalik wa-lmamalik” by Abu Obaid Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz bin Muhammad Al-Bakri Al-Andalusi, which is the oldest item at the exhibition, dating back to the 13th century, and “Kitab sarh al-uyun fi sharh risalat Ibn Zaydun” by Jamal al-Din ibn Nabata al-Masri.

The exhibition also features a range of other rare works, among them are “Kitab sihr al-balaga wa-sirr al-baria” by Abd al-Malik bin Muhammad bin Ismail Abu Mansour al-Tha’alabi, “Kitab Aya ib al-majluqat wa gharayib al-mawjudat” by Abu Abdullah bin Zakariya Al-Qazwini, “Risala fi ilm al-zilal” by Muhammad bin Al-Raqam Al-Andalusi, and a copy of the Holy Quran (known as Mushaf Moulay Zidane).

Additionally, the exhibition includes works such as “Kitab Al-Barq Al-Yamani fi l-fath al- utmani” by Qutbuddin Muhammad bin Ahmed Al-Nahrawali Al-Makki, “Diwan Shihab al-Din ibn al-Khayyat” (Diwan Ibn al-Khayyat) by Abu Abdullah Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Ali Al-Taghlibi, known as Ibn Al-Khayyat Al-Dimashqi, and “Diwan Shams al-Din al-Hanafi” by Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Hassan bin Ali Al-Hanafi Al-Qurashi Al-Taymi.

Those visiting the exhibition can also witness rare works such as “Kitab al-Yawahir al-maymua wa-l-nawadir al-masmua” by Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman al-Sakhawi Shams al-Din, “Kitab sulwan al-muta fi eudwan al’atba” by Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Zafar Al-Makki, “sharah ‘abhath alqanun” by Aladdin Ali bin Abi Al-Hazm Al-Qurashi, better known as Ibn Al-Nafis, “Kitab i’rab al-Qu’ran” by Abu Hayyan Al-Andalusi; and “Kitab al-magmu al-faiq min hadt jatimat rusul al-jaliq” by Muhammad Abd al-Rauf bin Taj al-Arifin bin Ali al-Manawi.

The inauguration was attended by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the American University of Sharjah, HE Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Culture and Youth, HE Abdul Rahman bin Muhammad Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, and HE Mohammed Al Murr, Chairman of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation, Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, HE Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority, Mohamed Obaid Al Zaabi, Chairman of Department of Protocol and Hospitality, Jose Luis del Valle Merino, Director of the Spanish El Escorial Library, and a number of senior officials and directors of government departments.

The exhibition is open to the public from April 2 to April 9 between 9 pm and 1 am at the Sharjah Book Authority’s headquarters. It offers a rare opportunity for visitors to gain insights into Spain’s rich heritage of Arabic manuscripts and learn about the contributions of Arab scholars to the fields of literature, science, and philosophy.

Fairmont Bab Al Bahr to Launch Water-from-Air Bottling Plant for Sustainability Efforts

Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, a luxury hotel in the United Arab Emirates, is set to complete its commitment to eliminate all plastic items, including water bottles and toiletries, by March 2023. To achieve this goal, the hotel will open a water-from-air bottling plant that will use advanced technology to produce water from the air. The plant will utilize an Atmospheric Water Generator developed by Eshara Water, which will produce 4,000 liters of water per day. 

The water will be filtered, mineralized, and filled into reusable, encapsulated glass bottles for use across the hotel’s 367 rooms, suites, villas, and restaurants. The initiative aligns with the hotel’s aim to create a greener and more sustainable environment for the hospitality industry.

Tycoon Tower: Millennium Hotels & Resorts to Open Tallest Hotel in Africa

The developers of Tycoon Tower, a towering 233-meter building in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, aim to make it a prominent landmark in the area. While no specifics such as key count, facilities, or opening date have been disclosed, the property will feature an infinity on its rooftop. Millennium Hotels & Resorts, led by newly-appointed CEO Fahad Abdulrahim Kazim, will manage the five-star hotel, which is a joint project with Nile Developments, one of the largest real estate developers in the New Administrative Capital. 

Tycoon Tower is one of four towers in the Nile Business City project, which also includes an administrative tower and Nile City Center, the project’s commercial hub. Millennium CEO Kazim expressed excitement about the project, which marks the company’s entry into Egypt, a key part of its growth strategy in Africa. The hotel will be a Grand Millennium, the company’s international flagship five-star brand.

Dubai Police signs MoUs with banks and financial institutions to tackle economic crimes

Dubai Police’s General Department of Criminal Investigation has entered into Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with ten banks and financial institutions to enhance the security system and collaborate with partners in investigating and predicting future economic crimes. The primary objective of the MoUs is to promote cooperation and expertise exchange among the parties on areas of mutual interest. Major General Jamal Salem Al Jallaf, Director of the General Department of Criminal, explained that this collaboration aims to create predictive frameworks to achieve the objectives of all parties in enhancing performance levels and preventive planning, in line with global economic, criminal, and technological changes. In light of these developments, Al Jallaf emphasized the need to implement proactive measures capable of strongly contributing to the development of the security system. He also noted that the General Department of Criminal Investigation creates strategic plans based on global changes and anticipates the future of security work to confront various types of crimes, including economic crimes.

 Finally, the Police senior figure highlighted that financial crimes pose challenges in fraudulent methods due to the increased reliance of countries and individuals on technology in personal and professional practices, and the Police stay current with fraud trends to ensure that Dubai remains the safest city in the world.

Uber’s Latest Data Insights Show Ridesharing’s Impact on Tourism and Sustainable Transportation in MENA Region

Uber’s latest data-driven insights on mobility in the MENA region have revealed the impact of ridesharing on tourism, economic growth, and sustainability. The MENA region saw significant growth, particularly during 2022, as it hosted mega-events such as the World Cup in Qatar, which attracted tourists from more than 80 different countries. Uber’s insights showed that tourists visited Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar.

 The increased tourism and public-private collaboration for mega-events also positively impacted drivers’ earnings. Uber aims to have one in four trips (25%) in the UAE be emissions-free by 2030. Uber also launched its latest innovative travel feature, Smart Itineraries, to make the travel experience even more seamless.
