Millennium Airport Hotel Dubai Team Participates in Beat Diabetes Walk
The Millennium Airport Hotel Dubai recently participated in the 10th edition of Beat Diabetes Walk at Zabeel Park, organised by the Landmark Group. Over 18,000 people completed the 3-km walk around the park to raise awareness about the need for healthy living at this year’s event. The walk was held with the support of the Dubai Sports Council, Emirates Diabetes Society (EDS), the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority and the Dubai Police.
Mr. Simon Moore, General Manager of Millennium Airport Hotel Dubai, said: “Beat Diabetes Walk is a remarkable initiative to increase public awareness about the causes and possible prevention of diabetes by adopting a healthy life style. As part of our Corporate Social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, we are glad to support campaigns such as these that help people to understand how proactive measures can lead them to overcome and manage the illness. This year, 37 volunteers from our team took part in the event.”
Diabetes is a major health concern across the world, affecting millions of people. A major highlight at this year’s walkathon was a strong participation by students.

SWISS-BELHOTEL INTERNATIONAL TRIUMPHS AT INDONESIA TRAVEL AND TOURISM AWARDS (ITTA) 2018-19
Hong Kong – Swiss-Belhotel International, the global hospitality management chain, is celebrating a hugely successful evening at the 9th Indonesia Travel and Tourism Awards (ITTA) 2018-19, during which the hotel group and several of its Indonesian properties were honoured with prestigious awards.
These illustrious annual awards are organised by the ITTA Foundation with the aim of recognising excellence in the Indonesian tourism and hospitality sectors. This year’s awards concluded with a glittering gala ceremony in Jakarta on 7th December 2018.
At this prestigious event, Swiss-Belhotel International won the title of “Indonesia’s Leading Global Hotel Chain” for an unprecedented eighth year. This is the blue-ribbon category for the hospitality industry and Swiss-Belhotel International took home the title ahead of many larger global hotel groups.

Third Batch of Shaza Kifah Graduates Complete First Phase of Training at Shaza Al Madina
To celebrate the accomplishments of the candidates a special ceremony was organised by the hotel management
Saudi Arabia: Shaza Al Madina, member of Global Hotel Alliance and winner of Saudi Arabia’s Leading Luxury Hotel 2018 Award, has announced the successful completion of the first phase of training for the third batch of Shaza Kifah graduates. During the period the candidates underwent an intensive 3-months training in multiple departments based on their interest, experience, knowledge, education and management skills.
This marks the beginning of the second phase of the training that will extend over 9 months and will help the participants gain valuable experience in a specific area identified to optimise their potential and learning in the hospitality industry. The candidates have now been placed in various roles ranging from front office to concierge, food and beverage, finance, purchasing and sales departments under the supervision of specialised and experienced associates.
To recognise and celebrate the accomplishments of the group during the first phase of training, Shaza Al Madina that is part of the DISCOVERY loyalty programme, organised a special ceremony attended by the top executives of the hotel.
Speaking on the occasion Amjad Irshaidat, Country General Manager for Shaza Hotels in KSA, stated, “The Shaza Kifah Programme provides local Saudi talents unique opportunities to leverage their skills in the hospitality sector. We are very excited to see their drive and ambition and are very proud of their achievements. The various modules are designed to provide outstanding on-the-job training for young talents to support their professional goals.”
Created in collaboration with the Saudi Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF), Shaza Kifah is the first Saudi development programme in KSA aimed at training and preparing local Saudi talent for a career in hospitality. Shaza Al Madina has been working closely with the College of Tourism – a government institute in KSA operating under the umbrella of Technical and Vocational Training Corporation. The college offers Shaza Kifah participants a qualified team to regularly oversee the trainees’ performance and certification at the end of the programmed as well as provide motivation, guidance and training to the candidates throughout the period.
On successful completion of the one-year training, the candidates are evaluated for potential employment at any of Shaza Hotels.
In addition to reducing unemployment, the Shaza Kifah programme supports Vision 2030 and its goal to make tourism and hospitality a pillar of the government’s economic diversification strategy. It is in line with the Ministry of Tourism’s Vision 2021 of preparing Saudis to take the lead in tourism and hospitality.

HITEC® Dubai 2018 Connects World’s Leading Hospitality Technology Providers with Hoteliers from the Middle East
The second edition of HITEC Dubai 2018, the Middle East’s largest hospitality technology exhibition and conference, recorded more than double the number of attendees along with debut of many new prominent exhibitors. Endorsed by Dubai Tourism and co-produced by Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP®) and Naseba, the show brought together top industry experts to present ground-breaking regional and international case studies, thought provoking panel discussions and game-changing technology demonstrations. Nytec Presents the World’s Largest Deployed IoT-based Guest Experience Platform at HITEC® Dubai 2018
Nytec presented a special case study at HITEC Dubai on the world’s largest deployed IoT-based guest experience platform created for Carnival Cruise Line. Speaking at the conference, Vincent Ball, the Vice President for Product Innovation at Nytec, stated, “We turned the cruise ship into a virtual ‘smart city’ at sea. It is the largest most extensive IOT deployment in the world and we are proud to be part of it. At the heart of this experience, is the Ocean Medallion. A wearable that is waterproof, with no buttons and it does some amazing things.”
The goal for Nytec was to enhance the overall Carnival cruise experience and profitability by developing a portfolio of attractive and desirable accessories that will hold the cruise Medallion, while serving as a form of personal expression for each passenger both on ship and post cruise.
When looked at in numbers, it is absolutely remarkable. Vincent said, “It was an extensive platform where we touched every part of the customer journey and operations making it a frictionless experience for guests. We installed over 7000 sensors on the ship, designed and engineered the hotel room door access with Assa Abloy, and the Medallion a wearable that enables secure transitions and personalized experiences for each guest. Added to that were 700,000 feet of cables, 1000 readers and 3000 touch displays.”
Talking about basic improvements, Vincent said, “A great example of how we transformed not only the guest experience, but operations too are photos. Before we got involved, Carnival printed every picture on the ship. Now it’s tied to each guest, visible on 82” touch displays, and the guest can access and purchase these well beyond the vacation. This transformed not only how guest access their photos but the operations too. There is no more printing required so there is no need to have paper or colour printers and ink on the ship which has reduced considerable weight.”
